ASUS Eee PC 1000HG Netbook enhanced by WiMax

Editor's Note:  This looks to be the hot little item these days.  I have two friends now that now owners of a "Netbook" class laptop.  With 3G now being integrated or offered via USB, this is the piece of hardware for the in the field technician / engineer.

It has been a rough couple of days for WiMax given that ClearWire may have to delay the network expansion if it doesn’t come up with $2 billion, but a WiMax capable ASUS Eee PC may just turn that frown upside down. Beyond its new nuvifone offerings, ASUS is also showing off some new netbooks at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress including one with a WiMax chip.

Sprint CEO hints at Clearwire partnership, dual-mode WiMAX / CDMA handset in 2008

We've said it before and we'll say it again. Sprint had better get their WiMAX/XOHM network lit-up right-quick, before they exhaust their financial means to do so. There's a lot riding on XOHM, and a couple wrong moves could spell the end for Sprint.

Nokia N800 gets WiMAX

Note:  I would like to get my hands on one of these with WiMax.  As long as the processor is not the bottleneck once it gets the WiMax speed then it could be a nice little mobile computer.

Nokia's N800 tablet is to get Mobile WiMAX connectivity in order to be used on Sprint's US WiMAX network next year, though it's probably keeping Wi-Fi and Bluetooth just in case.

Proxim Packs Wi-Fi and WiMAX Access in One Mesh Networking Box

Note:  I think this reads like a good product for deploying wireless mesh networks using WiMax as the backhaul and node to node communications.  Strap this with Asterisk and you could have a robust campus or metro voip network.  Hopefully it has some Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities so a person could prioritize the voice packets?

"Proxim Wireless has launched a low-cost, outdoor wireless-mesh access point that combines Wi-Fi and WiMAX radios, claiming it was the first to do so.
