Meet The 2600hz Project, The New Sound of Open Source Telephony

I really miss my Bluebox and the days then that would work.  Gotta love the $5 rRdbox from hallmark or the infamous Blotto Box that was no joke at all.  We salute you Captain Crunch!
 
Gigaom - Some of the core developers behind FreePBX — a well-known, open-source phone system — have teamed up and started The 2600hz Project, a commercial entity promoting a collection of open-source telephony applications and libraries. Today, they are releasing blue.box, a reworked version of open source FreePBX. The new venture is co-founded by Darren Schreiber and is also a subsidiary of newly formed VoIP Inc. The 2600hz Project received $250,000 in funding from an unnamed investor.

FreeSWITCH PBX 1.0.2 Released

With the new year comes a new release of FreeSWITCH, a very powerful open source telephony application.

The FreeSWITCH team is pleased to announce that version 1.0.2 is now available.

The last five months since the release of 1.0.1 have been very busy. New features, bug fixes, additions from the community - all of this and more. Some of the most exciting developments have to do with very high quality VoIP codecs. Jajah Brings VoIP to iPhone 2.0

JAJAH announced that it is building on its current Apple iPhone call-back offering by participating in the iPhone Developer Program to create possibly the first native global VoIP application. The new global VoIP application is expected to be available this summer, close to the iPhone 2.0 software release.

Free Email to Voice via VoIP Calling Launched - Yoomba

 

Yoomba has launched an application which turns email messages into VoIP calls. The service requires a small download which adds 'click to call' buttons to the user's email messages and address books, which when clicked will send a message to the contact including a link.

Unyte 2.5 Desktop-Sharing Tool Released

WebDialogs, announced that the latest version of its easy-to-use real-time collaboration software, Unyte 2.5, is now available, following a successful beta-test period. The new version of Unyte features enhanced picture quality and quicker image transition times between host and viewer monitors. It also offers a new remote-assistance capability that lets users accept control of another computer, for example, to edit a document or troubleshoot their product on a customer's computer.

New VoIP Call Recording Software for Mac OS X Released

Arcosoft Inc., announced the release of VONaLink SoloRecord for Mac OS X. SoloRecord works with any VoIP phone system based on the open SIP standard, such as Vonage, to record phone calls and to provide screen pops. Also available is a separate ScreenPop product, if recording is not required. SoloRecord and ScreenPop were previously available only for Windows.

Virtual Observer 3.0 Call Logger Released

Coordinated Systems, Inc., of East Hartford, CT, is pleased to announce the latest update to the Virtual Observer 3.0 Call Logger, a total call recording solution with support for most VoIP phone systems.

The Virtual Observer (VO) Logger can now be bolstered with virtual unlimited storage, enhanced playback and media encryption. Interactive Intelligence Releases New SIP Supported Predictive Dialer and Gateway

 

Note:  Nice to see the fully SIP support predictive dialer.  Time to flex my blogger muscle and see if they will let me give it a test drive.

Interactive Intelligence Inc., a global developer of business communications software, has released a new VoIP-enabled version of its outbound dialing and campaign management software, Interaction Dialer, designed for contact centers, teleservices firms and collections operations. The latest release of Interaction Dialer, version 2.4, is now based on the SIP standard so it can operate in an all-software, all-VoIP environment to help reduce costs and simplify management. The release includes an all new SIP gateway called Interaction Gateway, an appliance connecting legacy telephone trunks (T1s) to VoIP networks. Interaction Gateway works with Interaction Dialer to give high-volume outbound contact centers accurate predictive call analysis capabilities.

Articulation: VoIP on your Palm PDA

Hampton Software Limited announces the release of a new product: Articuation for PalmOS. PDA's have been around for several years now, although recently there seems to be a shift towards smartphone devices. Most PDA's, however, are very capable devices and can easily be used as telephones using VoIP as an alternative to the cell phone network. This technology is made even more accessible with the increase in WiFi coverage in the home, office and at public 'hotspots.'

VoIP Hat Trick. GoogleTalk, 16K and NextGen IVR

FreeSWITCH, an open source telephone soft-switch, reached a new milestone this week by combining three revolutionary VoIP features into one application. In Early April the project first announced interoperability with the GoogleTalk voice chat client making it possible to gateway calls to SIP or the public phone network. Three months later, the software made big news with successful switching of calls at 16 kilohertz. Traditionally, VoIP calls operate at 8 kilohertz (about 1/5 the detail in CD quality).

Nokia 770 tablet gains commercial VoIP softphone

The Gizmo Project has ported its VoIP (voice-over-IP) softphone to Nokia's 770 Internet Tablet. Gizmo's free features include calls with other SIP-phone users, voicemail, and conference calls. Paid features include "call outs" to non-SIP-based phones, and a 10-digit U.S. phone number, to support incoming calls.
