Flextronics withdraws objections to Nortel asset sale

 
 
Flextronics International Ltd said on Tuesday it has withdrawn all objections to the sale of Nortel's wireless technology assets to Ericsson and resolved outstanding issues with the Swedish telecom equipment maker. Ericsson this weekend won an auction for Nortel's key CDMA and next-generation LTE wireless technologies, which Nortel put on the block after it filed for creditor protection in January.

Nortel Bankruptcy Signals More Consolidation in Voice Telephony Market

Nortel has filed for bankruptcy and may be sold off in parts, according to one Canadian news outlet. The Globe and Mail reports Toronto-based Nortel applied for court approval for creditor protection in Delaware Wednesday morning. It was expected to file in Toronto, as well.
 
Nortel was Canada’s largest company at the peak of the tech boom in 2000, with a $366-billion (Canadian) market capitalization and 95,000 employees, and its decision to seek court protection from creditors marks not only the noteworthy fall of a one-time telecommunications giant, but also heralds the incredible shrinking market for competition among VoIP platform providers.

Telstra Deploys Australia's Largest Hosted IP PBX Solution

Telstra today announced it had deployed more than 10,000 new Telstra IP Telephony (TIPT) services across the organization - the largest ever roll-out of hosted IP telephony in Australia and an important milestone in the internal upgrade of the existing CustomNet voice solution.

Telstra Enterprise & Government Executive Director Paul Geason said the roll-out utilized the Telstra Next IP network and was another example of how Telstra was benefiting from the same products and services it makes available to its customers.

Aastra to take over Ericsson's iPBX Unit

Ericsson has entered into an agreement to divest its enterprise PBX solutions business to Aastra Technologies, a provider of open standard internet protocol based and traditional networking solutions. The agreement involves transfer of approximately 630 employees of which some 360 are based in Sweden. The transaction is expected to close in April 2008.

Inter-Tel CS5000 PBX Series Review

Note:
TechWorld has a write-up about the Inter-Tel iPBX series today.  After reading it, I noticed it is linux based and supports some of the same standard and codecs Asterisk supports.  If anything we can say Asterisk is having an effect on the whole PBX industry by looking at how they are supporting more standards that more pbxs support like SIP, Audio Codecs, Open Source software, etc..
 
" The CS-5000 series(the launch of whose CS-5600 prompted this review) is a VoIP platform, based on a Linux kernel. There are three variants in the range, each of which is basically a superset of the entry-level CS-5200."

Research: IP Telephony iPBX 5 Year Forcast

It its IP Telephony 5-Year Forecast Report, the Redwood Shores, Calif.-based market research firm predicts by 2010, revenues from IP lines will be US$4.6 billion per year, while the total PBX market will be US$7.1 billion annually.

Zultys Rises From the Ashes

Three months after IP PBX maker Zultys Technologies lost its funding and closed its doors, and two months after it filed for bankruptcy, its future is once again looking bright. Pivot VoIP, a division of Israel-based PBX maker Telrad Connegy, has bought Zultys’ assets, including all key intellectual property, online and offline brands, all of its products. It also assumed Zultys’ debt.

Create Seamless Mobility Throughout Your Enterprise PBX

Note:  This is a great article.  I can't wait for this dual mode mobile devices to come down a little in price.  My new Asterisk project is to implement one of the GSM gateways.  It would be nice if on these phones you could implement some nice Less Cost Routing (LCR) so you could almost seamless move around your campus.
 
Fixed/mobile convergence lets you roam over a combination of cellular and Wi-Fi networks. It can be seamless if it's implemented properly. It was always amazing to watch the StarTrek team and see Captain Kirk stranded on a planet or in another space ship, yet be able to speak directly with his compatriots via his "communicator." Not once did he dial a number to reach Scotty or Bones; rather he simply spoke directly into the small device and was instantly connected to them. How did the device know to whom to connect? Digital ESP? What was the range of this wireless wonder? Whatever it was, it set the high water mark for the ultimate in mobile communication: wireless interplanetary communications.
